Artificial Radionuclides in Marine Organisms in the Northeast Pacific Ocean off Oregon, U. S. A
Marine organisms modify the distribution of radioisotopes in the oceanic ecosystem. Various vital processes of plants and animals concentrate elements. The distributions of the biota are often independent of their watery environment; they may actively migrate vertically or horizontally or may remain in place while the water moves past them. In the case of plankton, the concentrating organisms p...
متن کاملHabitat-forming deep-sea corals in the Northeast Pacific Ocean
We define habitat-forming deep-sea corals as those families of octocorals, hexacorals, and stylasterids with species that live deeper than 200 m, with a majority of species exhibiting complex branching morphology and a sufficient size to provide substrata or refugia to associated species. We present 2,649 records (name, geoposition, depth, and data quality) from eleven institutions on eight hab...
متن کاملCan crabs kill like a keystone predator? A field-test of the effects of crab predation on mussel mortality on a northeast Pacific rocky shore
Predation can strongly influence community structure and ecosystem function, so the loss of key predators can have dramatic ecological consequences, unless other predatory species in the system are capable of playing similar ecological roles. In light of the recent outbreak of sea star wasting disease (SSWD) and subsequent depletion of west coast sea star populations, including those of the key...
متن کاملVolatility transmissions between renminbi and Asia-Pacific on-shore and off-shore U.S. dollar futures
This paper uses multivariate GARCH techniques to study volatility spillovers between the Chinese non-deliverable forward market and seven of its Asia-Pacific counterparts over the period January 1998 to March 2005. To account for the time-variability of conditional correlation, a dynamic correlation structure is included in the volatility model specification. The empirical results demonstrate t...
متن کاملDevelopment of a mechanical earth model in an Iranian off-shore gas field
Wellbore instability is a quite common event during drilling, and causes many problems such as stuck pipe and lost circulation. It is primarily due to the inadequate understanding of the rock properties, pore pressure, and earth stress environment prior to well construction. This study aims to use the existing relevant logs, drilling, and other data from offset wells to construct a precise mech...
